The Stars placed exiled forward Sean Avery on waivers Monday. The team that claims him, likely the Rangers, would split the remainder of his four-year, $15.5 million contract with the Stars. If no team makes a claim, Dallas would likely return him to the minors.Bob McKenzie today said that the Rangers would have to clear some cap room in order to put Avery on their roster if they claimed him. However, this is contrary to what many other media sources have stated over the past few days. According to Larry Brooks of the NY Post:
The Rangers have approximately $3.45 million of pro-rated cap space to spend approaching Wednesday's trade deadline, with $1,937,500 of that presumably committed to Sean Avery.
