Rangers Headlines for Wednesday

  • Jay Greenberg analyzes Nik Zherdev's goal - the one that "98 percent of NHL players miss 99 percent of the time." [Link]

It's a small trade, but just to show you how incompetent Sather is..

He traded Fritsche for Erik Reitz. The Rangers got the 7th defenseman they needed, but that wasn't originally Sather's intention. He was originally going to trade for another 4th line forward. Another useless spare part. But the Wild's GM said he'd rather trade Reitz. Sather made the deal.

Reitz played ok for the team, but could definitely help the team i his role as a 7th defenseman. Sather then waives Reitz, which he did not need to do to clear cap space. Reitz is plucked by the leafs so the Rangers gave up Fritsche for nothing basically.

I agree, I did like Reitz. However, I think that he waived both Voros and Reitz the day before the deadline just in case he needed that cap space.

In hindsight, the signings of Rissmiller & Voros were mistakes. Still in my opinion, dwarfed by the signing of Redden to his mega-ridiculous contract.
