Your Hockey Reading To Start The Week

  • Faux Rumors has off-season report cards for both the Eastern Conference and the West. Do you agree that the Detroit Red Wings did the worst and the Kings and Tampa the best this summer?

  • It looks like the Free Agent pool gets even shallower as it's reported that Alex Tanguay has signed with Tampa. Is the next best UFA forward Mike Comrie? Or Petr Sykora?

  • According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: the Sharks, Rangers, Kings, Devils and Oilers are all still interested in acquiring disgruntled Ottawa Senator Dany Heatley. That could be news to Los Angeles GM, Dean Lombari who considers Heatley to be "too risky." At first many thought that the salary cap dumping that the Sharks did on Friday was to make room for Dany Heatley. But, is it really to accommodate Phil Kessel's salary?

  • The Hurricanes are still trying to trade RFA defenseman Anton Babchuk who had 16 goals last season. Babchuk switched agents last week and says that he wants to stay in the NHL. Wonder if Sather is still interested, as it was reported he was earlier this summer. He's a much more offensive minded defenseman than both Bouillon and Seidenberg who were the most recently rumored Ranger defensive targets. However, as an RFA, the Rangers would have to give up more than just money to obtain the Russian blue liner.
