Well, it looks like his wife was right. According to the Edmonton Journal:
[Semenov] is returning to Russia: he’s just signed a one-year contract with Dynamo Moscow of the KHL for $1.6 million (all terms US), much to the delight of his wife.You can say what you like but it clearly was the better situation for Semenov. In New York he was going to be a 7th defenseman making $600k, while in the KHL he will make $1.6M and it's tax-free money. That's a significant pay difference and he'll be a lot closer to his family.
