New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has claimed goaltender Alex Auld off re-entry waivers from the Dallas Stars.
The Dallas Stars waived goalie Alex Auld who was the odd man out after a trade in which they acquired Kari Lehtonen from the Atlanta Thrashers.
Initially this week Auld cleared waivers, but the Stars put him on re-entry waivers. Since the Rangers claimed Auld off of re-entry waivers, the Rangers are only responsible for paying 50% of the remaining salary owed to Auld this season.
It was expected that Sather would try to acquire a veteran backup for Henrik Lundqvist prior to the March 3rd NHL trade deadline because they have been rotating AHL call-ups Chad Johnson and Matt Zaba.
