Ryan McDonagh Interview With The Hockey News

One player who has created a buzz amongst the Rangers faithful this summer is Ryan McDonagh. McDonagh is 21 years old, 6-foot-1, 222lbs and considered to be a stay-at-home type defenseman. He decided to sign an entry-level contract with the Rangers this summer rather than returning to Wisconsin for his senior year of college.

McDonagh is in Toronto this week (along with another Rangers prospect, Mats Zuccarello Aasen) as part of the NHL Rookie Showcase. McDonagh was interviewed by The Hockey News, below are a few of the better quotes. You can also view the full article by clicking on the above link.

McDonagh was acquired last summer by the Rangers from Montreal. At the time, McDonagh was considered to be one of the top prospects in the Montreal organization. When asked about the trade, McDonagh said:
I didn’t expect to get traded before ever signing my first contract or playing any kind of pro game. But it taught me a good lesson that this game is a business as well - things are going to happen and you just have to roll with the punches and get used to it.
It's expected that McDonagh is going to have a legit shot at making the Rangers roster out of training camp.

When asked about what he brings to the table:
First, I try to be a good leader, good character guy, someone who works hard. On the ice, I want to be solid in my own end for sure, I don’t want to be on for goals-against and then use my skating ability to create some offense and jump up in the play and make something happen.
