Komisarek Says He Didn't Punch The Woman Who Accusses Him Of Doing So

More information has been released by TMZ about the Mike Komisarek incident that was reported last week.

A woman alleges that Komisarek punched her in the face at a Hollywood club and now Komisarek is denying that. Witnesses are backing Komisarek's side of the story.

Remember Ales Kotalik? Yeah, He Was Put On Waivers Today

Former Rangers forward Alex Kotalik, who was sent to Calgary last season along with Chris Higgins in the deal which the Rangers acquired Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust, has been placed on waivers.

Kotalik has another year left on his current contract that Sather signed him to with a cap hit of $3M.

Funny that Prust, who at the time many considered to be a throw in has turned out to be the best player in the deal and a valuable commodity for the Rangers this season.

Woman Alleges Komisarek Punched Her In The Face

TMZ is reporting that the Maple Leafs defenseman could be in big trouble with the Los Angeles police department:

[Komisarek] allegedly punched a woman in the face at an L.A. nightclub earlier this month ... TMZ has learned.
Law enforcement sources tell us ... the 28-year-old defensive powerhouse was named in a police report filed by a woman who claims the whole thing went down after Komisarek decided to lift her up in the air at a Hollywood nightclub.

We’re told the woman claims she demanded Komisarek put her down—but he refused—so she slapped him in the face.

The woman claims Komisarek immediately set her down ... and then punched her in the face, causing her to bleed.

Prucha Signs With KHL Team

Former New York Ranger and Phoenix Coyote, Petr Prucha, has signed for the remainder of the KHL season with SKA St. Petersburg.

According to Dmitry Chesnokov of Puck Daddy
Tochinsky (SKA GM) also noted that it is very likely that Prucha will stay on in the KHL after his contract expires at the end of the season. The KHL club also dealt directly with the Coyotes on the transfer of Prucha, something the KHL always wanted -- two clubs dealing directly with each other on player transfers.

SKA will pay a luxury tax of 7.5 million rubles (approximately $250,000) to the KHL for the player. Prucha is expected to join his new team in the KHL on Monday and will most likely play his first game in Europe next Wednesday.

Staal, Lundqvist & Stepan Heading To All Star Weekend

According to Jesse Spector
The Rangers will be well represented at the All-Star Game in Raleigh later this month, as it was announced today that Henrik Lundqvist and Marc Staal will be part of the big show, while Derek Stepan was named to participate in the rookie skills competition.
I'm happy for these guys to get acknowledged for playing as well as they do on a nightly basis. But, in saying that I really would prefer if they spent that weekend relaxing, getting ready for the stretch run. It's a meaningless game that for fans above the age of ten is about as fun to watch as watching the grass grow.

Check out the rest of the All Stars @ NHL.com

Rangers Trade Michal Rozsival To Phoenix For Wolski

No surprise who the trade partner is :)

Glen Sather pulled off a trade late this afternoon. According to the press release
the club has acquired forward Wojtek Wolski (pronounced VOY-teck VOHL-skee) from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for defenseman Michal Rozsival.

Wolski, 24, was originally selected as Colorado’s first round pick, 21st overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He has registered six goals and 10 assists for 16 points, along with 10 penalty minutes in 36 games with Phoenix this season.
Yesterday, after the team announced that Alex Frolov was done for the season because of a knee injury there was immediately speculation that the Rangers would make a trade to add some depth up front. The team is already crippled with injuries to Ryan Callahan, Erik Chirstensen (you probably know how I feel about EC, I don't consider this a loss), Vinny Prospal and Derek Boogaard.

Many Rangers fans have been on Rozsival's case for years and will be over the moon to see this move by Sather. I have always said that Rozsival is better than the majority of Rangers fans give him credit for. But, at the same time, this could be a very good move for the Rangers.

Does this mean the Rangers are ready to recall Del Zotto soon? Or, has Tortorella seen enough of McDonagh that he believes the rookie defenseman can stick with the big club for the remainder of the season? Or, does this leave the Rangers looking for another veteran defenseman to fill in on the blue line?

As Puck Daddy said "Rangers fans by and large don't care about this. Rozsival is gone, and Wolski isn't named "a bag of pucks.' "

Frolov's Season & Likely Short NYR Career Over

The injuries continue to pile up for the Rangers.
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that Alex Frolov has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a second degree sprain of his medial collateral ligament and a medial meniscus tear in his right knee, and will undergo season-ending surgery.
The Rangers recalled Kris Newbury from the AHL earlier in the day. Newbury "has five goals and 30 assists for the Whale and was tied for third in the league in assists." [Link]

Rangers Links & News [Midterm Grades, Hank Getting Married, McDonagh Debut]

  • Rozsival who has a rib injury won't play tonight in Dallas. According to Do La Greca, Ryan McDonagh, who was called up earlier this week in place of Michael Del Zotto, will make his NHL debut.

  • Avery to make first trip back to Dallas since they waived him [The Bergen Record]

  • Henrik Lundqvist is off the market ... relationship wise ;) Hank is getting married to his longtime girlfriend, Therese [Link]

  • New York Rangers midterm grades, what do you think? Personally, I have no idea how Frolov gets anything above a D. I'd give Seteve Eminger a solid B, he's been MUCH better than I think anyone expected.  At this point I'm also going to be a little harsher on Gaborik than Dave, in my opinion he hasn't been good enough and I'm giving him a C+. Devils Trade Langenbrunner Back To Stars

Trade talk picked up quickly yesterday around the NHL when Devils' captain Jamie Langenbrunner made it known that the Devils asked him to waive his No Trade Clause and he was kept out of the lineup for the Devils last night against Philly.

One of the suspected front runners earlier on was Dallas, which is where Langenbrunner originally played before being traded to the Devils in 2002. Langenbrunner was traded to New Jersey along with Joe Nieuwendyk, who is now the General Manager of the Dallas Stars.

It was announced today that the Stars did in fact re-acquire Jamie Langenbrunner in exchange for conditional 3rd round pick. The pick will become a 2nd round pick if the Stars either win a playoff round this year or are able to re-sign Langenbrunner prior to July 1st.

A good pick up for the Stars and an obvious cap clearing move by the struggling New Jersey Devils.

Del Zotto Sent To Minors, McDonagh Recalled

Ranger Rants
The Rangers today sent struggling 20-year-old defenseman Michael Del Zotto to Connecticut (AHL), a day after he returned to the lineup following four games as a scratch - two of those healthy scratches. The team has recalled defenseman Ryan McDonagh, 21, the Canadiens’ first-round pick in 2007 who was acquired in the Scott Gomez trade and signed this offseason after three seasons at Wisconsin.
Many wanted McDonagh on the team after the pre-season he had. McDonagh may get his first NHL game on Wednesday night against Carolina, but it sounds like John Tortorella may put Matt Gilroy back into the lineup and keep McDonagh out.
